Charlie is probably one of my favorite representations of a survivor. Because she’s not nice. She’s not easy. She’s not timid. She’s so angry. Extremely relatable. I love her character so much.

I am trying to think of who could be the father to Kelly’s baby. I keep coming back to Huck. He denied it earlier but he was so protective of her when the cops were pinning her. Then again, it could just be that he knew she was a vulnerable girl and his former student.

I still think Heller/Pinkman is to blame here. Fundies are ALWAYS the bad guys in KS’s novels.

It’s getting fucking good. It’d be ever better if there’s no husband moping in the future and it remains in Sam’s perspective. If I have to hear one more time about the tragic emptiness of Ben’s key hook I will die.

I KNOW that fundie Mrs. Pinkman has something to do with this.

I kind of thought Lenore might have been trans given the descriptions of her voice.

Very flawed representation. I could have sworn there was a section where she was described as having “man hands”. At the same time, the fact that she’s so maternal, that she’s consistently viewed as a woman by the sisters, is nice.

Please. Please do not let Lenore be the killer.

Karin Slaughter is addicted to making her heroines childfree, either by choice (Angie Polanski, Sam, the rich sister from Pretty Girls) or because of horrible tragedy (Sarah Linton, Charlie, Lena). She just really does not seem to like making her protagonists moms! Which I respect, for the record.

Okay so, WHY is Sam’s hair white? I don’t think a gunshot wound can do that. I’m assuming we’re dealing with some “rule of cool” here, which is fine.

God I’m a dummy. Sam is alive. The narrative poltergeist (of Sam, at least — Gamma is still haunting this book) has ended.

Sam’s husband sounds like an asshole.

Oh thank god Rusty got stabbed I could not take another second of husband moping. This woman is worse than Sarah Linton. At least Sarah’s husband died.

Jesus Christ I love Karin Slaughter but I cannot stand “husband moping”. It’s so grating and she always drags it on forever. Whether it’s Sarah Linton or here with Charlie, I cannot stand it. I hate skimmers but I do definitely skim when the husband moping starts.

Sam and Gamma haunt the everliving fuck out of this narrative man.

Okay so obviously Sam’s dead. Every time she’s talked about, Charlotte frames her next to Gamma.

I have two theories for this.
1. Sam killed herself.
2. The headlights she saw WERE Ken Coin, who WAS in on it, and HE killed her. I do not trust Ken Coin at all.

Or maybe she’s alive. I dunno.

God Karin is so fuckin good here. One of the best crime/thriller authors out there. One of the best that’s ever done it.

Obviously someone has set this girl up. I’m starting to think she was groomed. Probably by Huck? Or maybe Huck manipulated her into it. I don’t trust the old Heller woman. Karin Slaughter never portrays religious fundies positively. If a fundie shows up in a Slaughter book, they’re bad.

I’m making a hard call right now: Ken Coin was the guy with the revolver with Zach Culpepper. The murdered Daniel Culpepper was set up. Also Huck clearly had something to do with what happened. I don’t trust that man.

I really hope Charlie and Ben fix their marriage. Ben sounds cute.

The monkey lighting the blunt absolutely got my ass. Did not anticipate it.
