He was in prison for so long ... 😭 Faria's seizures.... the 'cemetery' of the chateau...he's been through so much

It's a cute story so far but....why leave the incident with Nigel and the cat incomplete and ambiguous? :/ that was Reed's cat....and they both dont care enough to see if it's injured/has been killed after all that...? Just straight to "you saved me"...It needed a bit more care toward the creature that helped bring them together....

Chapter 9 was GLORIOUS. He literally swooped in after she 'declared war' and played the part of fiance, with his own little jab at her (crumpets) but he *cared* she was fearful and he obvs wants to actually marry her omg. His pov was so protective 😭

I'm loving it so far! Haven't read HR all that much

Dante and Abbe dont deserve to be in prison 😭

Alright part ii is getting more intriguing

A lot of character perspectives. So far my favorite is Tracy, as I can relate to her in how I was when I was younger. There's a lot unfolding in the story by part ii. Im not sure if i'd reread this book though. There's a lot of different motives and intrigue, but I'm not utterly gripped/'thrilled' by this thriller yet. Maybe that will change

The annual re-read of this beautiful book has begun

I do agree the sentence structure is fairly short through most of the book, but if you take the form for what it represents (Reacher's narrative / mind), it makes sense. If he's ex-military it represents his rational, clipped, action-oriented thoughts. It's doing character work, even if it means the sentences read shorter than typical prose in most other books.

I think I'm a horror fan, at the heart of it all....Frakenstein is horror in a way, so may as well embrace it. This book has some horror elements: "Something wrong with the house a newly moved in family" type of 'haunted' house. The footnotes structure is very interesting, excited to see this book play with format!

Some of the writing is a bit noticeably repetitive, and a few of the phrases (hell's bells) take me a bit out of the narrative, but i'm enjoying it so far. That first kiss was hottt with him telling her to say goodnight, cause he didn't want to do more being rushed/ being interrupted. 🥵
