At this point in the book, I think the "genetic memory" theory is the only one that makes a lick of sense. That, plus the sisters' shared features that Lucy just found out about, implies to me that L might actually be J's child, perhaps from an illicit pregnancy with that guy. There's a big enough age gap between the women that it could be possible. Plus I think I know where Hope went, the dates might line up...
