I don't like the feeling that Tristram is becoming the hero -- not Ludovic. Tristram definitely has more page time, and it seems like he's the one apprehending the villain.

Will we ever get out of the inn?
And the cat-and-mouse antics are getting tiresome

This is definitely the most fast-paced, interesting Georgette Heyer book I've read. Liking it so far.

Hoo boy. Only 100 pages in and I’m already tired of hearing about endowments.

From the GHOSTBUSTERS-reminiscent first scene through the near constant examples of books-with-personalities, I really like this so far!

This opening scene reminds me of Ghostbusters for some reason— the apparition in the library. lol.

Gosh it’s cringy when characters in a period fantasy talk with modern dialogue

Ugh. This book just dropped one of my most hated tropes and it’s extra annoying because it’s back to back with FOR THE WOLF which also had it. I’m still intrigued enough to at least skim till the end, but I won’t be ranking this above a 3

“Gods save us from heroes.” Definitely picking up on some feminist undertones, but I really like Kingfisher’s writing style and am really intrigued by this fractured fairy tale story.
