Hoo boy. Only 100 pages in and I’m already tired of hearing about endowments.

From the GHOSTBUSTERS-reminiscent first scene through the near constant examples of books-with-personalities, I really like this so far!

This opening scene reminds me of Ghostbusters for some reason— the apparition in the library. lol.

Gosh it’s cringy when characters in a period fantasy talk with modern dialogue

Ugh. This book just dropped one of my most hated tropes and it’s extra annoying because it’s back to back with FOR THE WOLF which also had it. I’m still intrigued enough to at least skim till the end, but I won’t be ranking this above a 3

“Gods save us from heroes.” Definitely picking up on some feminist undertones, but I really like Kingfisher’s writing style and am really intrigued by this fractured fairy tale story.

Two hundred plus pages in, and she’s still so catty and judgy to the love interest. How about some character growth? Would it be toxic masculinity for the love interest to defend himself against the general unpleasantness of the main character?

Well now THIS is interesting! Lol now she has a reason to be bitter and hateful.

I just encountered a trope/cliche that younger Me would have immediately DNF’d in protest. I guess I’m getting less cranky in my older age.

I like Jules Verne, but man he starts out DENSE.

I'm a third of the way in, and I can't stop wondering why she hates libertarians so much?
