Uh idk, this felt like some Colleen Hoover type shit.

I liked the aesthetic of The Widow’s Breakfast! That’s about it, the ending was sorta lackluster.

Dead Wood is a nice bite sized little thing. It was certainly refreshing to not read some sort of gross caricature in it.

Okay, Last Breath was pretty cool. I dig the concept a lot, and Alinger had me hooked as a character immediately. Although, I’m not a big fan of using real people. It feels disrespectful.

The Black Phone was sort of meh. The “Its for you” line was pretty cheesy.
It felt like a loose tumble of ideas, I’m not really sure how they could make a whole movie franchise out of it.

I think Better Than Home was a nice little slice of life story, overall. However, why tf did we talk so in detail about this kid’s junk 😭😭😭

Done with 20th Century Ghost. I liked this one much more than Best New Horror, although idk. I love the idea of Imogene, but I dislike the…forced romance aspect? The “her legs lewdly hung open.” This is a 19 year old girl….Joe Hill’s writing does this a lot, disappointingly.

I just finished Best New Horror. Given that Eddie hammered on the fact that he’s bored with cliches, this short story really FELT like a cliche.
Like yeah duh, he’s gonna get murdered at the house of the freaky writer. Of COURSE the freaky writer is a Nazi. Of COURSE we had to mention rape a few times.

Chapter 8 is probably one of the worst chapters of WoF EVER. The character assassination is DIABOLICAL.
Moon’s dialogue is genuinely painful. Qibli’s little blurb about “yOu MiSs wHaT tHey’Re acTuaLlY DOiNg” is BULLSHIT??? Literally, the last two books, Moon has said multiple times that a dragon’s thoughts don’t mean they’re inherently evil. Just UGHHH this chapter is so bad.

First of all, this CLEARLY takes inspiration from House of Leaves- at least in my opinion. However, despite how much I loved that book, idk if I’m so hot on this one so far.
The phone call from Thomas’s dad really took me out of it. It started and I immediately thought “this is gonna tell us his dad is an abuser” and…it did. It felt shoehorned and tacky.
