What on Earth—??

Sister Rafaela really just needs to let the convent destroy itself. Like, I’m with Berta here: throw out the whole nunnery. I’m starting to reach the point of being done with reading this book and the weird smell.

Generic and repetitive, but some of the poems have been really cathartic to read.

It’s kinda slow going, I’m not going to lie? It’s also a bit repetitive, but convent life is so I’ll give it a pass. Idk, maybe it’s more dense than slow going.

Fifty pages in and I can’t stop wondering what I’m reading and why. It’s like a terrible train wreck that I want to watch all day.

That first story; holy shit. And the fact that I recognized Ambrose from You’ve Lost a Lot of Blood.

I also kept screaming “Jillian that wasn’t love” throughout this whole story, ngl. Hated Jillian so much even though she was a victim, and honestly good for Jay.

AHA—???? THE PLOT TWIST??? THEY’RE SIBS???

What the fuck

The time period is refreshing from what I normally read but not foreign enough of a subject/time period like the one in Pilgrom (Luthi). I’m enjoying it so far, I’m definitely intrigued but not spooked.

I really am just terrible at updating my page count—but the book has finally picked up and things are happening!

I started reading this yesterday and made it to page 130 in one sitting. I feel like I definitely have to give this book another (even though I’m not done), and approach it like required reading for a college literature/English class. Definitely a wild read so far.

Googling along as I read has taught me more about the Crusades than history class ever has, but it hasn’t felt tedious, which I appreciate greatly. A cast of characters has been introduced, the stage is being set, and I just want to keep reading.

Started this yesterday after finishing His Black Tongue and man—this man’s ability to describe things and sprinkle in beautiful words—I eat it.
