LOUIS’ STORY ESCALATED SO QUICKLY WTF

OKAY WAIT i knew i was gunna like this story! This is the thriller element i was looking for. MC IMMEDIATELY doubting the things he sees.

It broached psych-thriller but also the idea that what he’s seeing is in fact real so that fear the MC feels bleeds into the reader mhmhm

There is something almost scarier about being haunted by your guilt and the source of your guilt potentially seeking revenge than I think any of the stories you usually hear.

Also i hope that peta and louis dont split i actually like them a lot and i want them to have babies and i hipe this elk doesn’t take the babies away

Helen is a peculiar thing, cuz how do u not have the social cues to NOT call someone who isn’t a fascist A FASCIST??? and so casually too. Rick keeps saying she’s unwell but what does that even mean???

After the scene at the barn I knew Klara felt a typa way ab Rick but I didn’t think it was affection, more so curiosity. I can tell Rick does feel for Josie and that Josie may not feel the same for him. But Chrissie telling Klara to become Josie so she can garner Rick’s affections is fucked up. This is starting to remind me of The Host, and how Wanda had to become separated to be able to love as herself.

Oh this “portrait” is ABSOLUTELY an AF of Josie isn’t it???

Thats why the mom and this Mr. Capaldi are being so secretive and the portrait is behind a locked door and the measurements and photos are so precise. That’s my guess.

Okay we just entered Yumi and the Nightmare Painter territory. The whole “destroy a machine to save people” in this case the machine Klara wants to destroy would be for the Sun to save Josie from sickness as opposed to Yumi & Painter needing to destroy the machine for the spirits to save everyone from the shroud

Im starting to think the boxes are like a grid that adapts Klara’s periphery to the world, i cant for the life of me remember if she was always seeing boxes like if she’d mentioned it earlier in the book.

Im also interested in this “plan” Rick and Josie have? I wanna assume its like a marriage pact. And since Klara is talking about these events in past tense im starting to dread learning why it failed.

Now i dont usually love stories where religion is important to the plot especially anything that could be described in similarity to Puritanism but the Grey Dog having been compared to God in that brief moment hits different when it’s 1900s Puritan culture. Similar to how in midnight mass, vampires of el norte and sinners relate the vampires to angels or helpers.

I wonder if anyone knows that the first time that woman’s husband came on to her was assault, so getting inseminated by him literally was more of a death sentence than the adultery was.

I also wonder if Ada will ever tell Agatha what happened at Willaby.

The time period is SO important to the plot, idk if this would’ve made as much sense in any other.

The relief that Agatha felt having lost her child is one I can imagine many women of the time (and now) experience with a man they are chained by. Ada’s father and that woman’s husband are both scum. Forcing her to stand, read bible verses and essentially bleed out is vile.
