Reading the different levels of this feels akin to experiencing consistent dream echoes. So far, the narrative has only 'echoed' from Zampanò to Navidson to Johnny, I'm anticipating the echo to reverberate...

Dream Echoes: This occurs when a specific element, setting, or storyline from a previous dream spontaneously resurfaces in a new one, triggering a sudden sense of familiarity.

My favorite passage so far: it's easily overlooked, but it is brilliant in its concise meta structure. 2 paragraphs, 1 of an ordinary nuclear family breakfast and its companion annotation from a reader in the outer narrative who praises the author for the detour. I adore how by placing a mundane domestic scene beside explicit commentary on its inclusion, we can see straight through this dense narrative.

"Stories are for joining the past to the future. Stories are for those late hours in the night when you can't remember how you got from where you were to where you are. Stories are for eternity, when memory is erased, when there is nothing to remember except the story."

"All's fair in love and war, and this is a bit of both."

"I want... to be useful, not important."

"Progress is always sad. There is no new life without death."

Picked this back up for roughly 5 chapters before putting it down again.

Very captivating read but almost intoxicating in its inner-dialog.

TL;DR - I need a break from it
