This book is trying to be Feminist and talk about the experiences of women but it loves centring men rather than focusing on the sisters themselves.

Oh my god, Laurie’s confession scene…
It’s such an iconic novel scene and this author went with “It sucks. Yeah, it sucks.”

Laziest or most obvious metaphors ONLY. “Surrounds like water” “soothes like a balm” or “it didn’t make sense, like a poem that also didn’t make sense.” This writing blows.

This book imports the names of the Little Women characters just to have a selling point; it is doing nothing worthwhile with the characters or the story

Was this written on the authors first day on Earth? People write autobiographies and tell-alls all of the time. Why would a man writing the story of raising his four daughters suddenly gather streets full of protestors?
Also why is their *father* the one who wrote Little Women and not Jo?? 😵‍💫

Get the sense Part 2 might move faster than Part 1!!

Tiffany is a misogynistic caricature to the point where I almost think it’s meant to be satirical, but then it’s just not effective satire

This is becoming a hate-read. WHY does Mash repeatedly prioritise a travelling companion he hardly knows over saving his five-year-old daughter?

The characters are starting to grow on me quite a bit, but I still don’t enjoy this narrative voice and writing

The pacing of this book is just… not very good. We’re getting these emotional moments of Tao confessing her tragic backstory and giving Kina a speech about how she’s changed and grown… at the 40% mark. Nothing has happened to make these relationships or these supposed changes feel earned.
