It’s funny how blindingly obvious some of these are, but it’s cool to think that these basic tenets are an early science, still true 2500 years later. Like yeah I would say the 5 constant factors are pretty spot on

One running them through the book, mentioned over and over again, is Deb’s kindness. He would always give the coat off his back to whatever poor soul he met on the street that day. I think it intersects strongly with his belief that each man must have the right to go his own way, to make his own choices, to be (as Paulo Freire would say) a complete human. The revolution must be lead by the working man.

Why do I keep reading books that are oddly pertinent. I wish the Pullman strike and other labor disputes were more discussed in like high school history. Even in victory, the weapons used by our oppressors will ultimately lead to their own failure

Just finished the final chapter, with the afterthoughts and essays still to go. An excellent work of theory, very dense but also singular in its vision. Focused around the core idea that humans are beings of freedom, and that the only way to achieve that freedom is through each persons own self-actualization, Pedagogy captures (in my opinion) where so many revolutions have failed.

Excellent introduction. I feel like I have great context from the life of Freire that explains how he came to the ideas he did.
