I wonder, we often talk about assimilation and whether or not we should be striving for it within the immigrant community. I don’t want to talk about that question. I want to talk about ease. My guess is that , in America, assimilation is hard. Learning english is hard and the american education system probably doesn’t help. Free community college? Just some thoughts

This is my take on abundance:
What Ezra Klein js saying is this… “my world view is right, so lets crash through all of these public regulatory frameworks that give a voice to local communities on what they want to do”. But ezra… your world view isn’t always right. Houston is racist, and you saying houston is better then liberal cities is omitting that most people don’t want to live in houston!

Hmm thoughts so far:

(1) there are a lot of names and references i really don’t know which makes it hard to read
(2) was the greatful dead really apolitical? is that possible in the late 1960s or was that a fever dream
(3) the war on drugs!

Fossil fuel extraction has always killed people…. beyond us caring about the future it has taken the lives of millions, we just never really think about that. I’d be curious to talk to Vaclav Smil about that. How much historical death could be attributed to fossil fuel extraction?

Violence follows oppression; this book has me thinking about the connection between the IRA and the Black Panther party. But also the innocents caught up in the struggle for equality.

What made catholics feel oppressed in British Ireland? And, in what caused loyalism?
