the more i read the more im confused by and get angrier at one of the top reviews of this book. “i’m tired of memoirs being all about child abuse” and ranking it poorly on that merit. i don’t think it’s neko’s fault for that innit

extremely interesting, and not really shocking, coming off of a catherine the great biography at how the relationship between julie and konstantin is so reminiscent of catherine and peter’s. both young women so far from home, unable to leave and stuck with these cruel chauvinistic sadists. and a note of just just how much catherine learned from elizabeth when she was julie’s age, despite her cruelty at times.

already bawling my eyes out

not really sure how it’s misogynistic like how some reviews are saying, but i am not even half way through so we’ll see. it just seems to be drawing on what the other family members thought of them which could seem so.

while i am enjoying this immensely, i am aggravated with the constant quipping. if it was meant to be funny or affable, i do not think it reads as so, but rather flippant.

i love books that really are just people going about their dayit really is so good. she’s going to buy shoes because she needs them. i love it.
