Listened to this one a few years back and have been wanting to chronologically read it since! My husband willingly signed up to do nightly readings on the dates with a coffin room fireplace in the background. If that’s not true love, I don’t know what is.

Tolstoy…you’ve won me over. I cannot stop reading to see the end but also know the contented emptiness I’ll feel leaving these characters youve so perfectly developed.

The increasing number of highlights in each book…

Am I taking this too seriously?! It was supposed to be a light funny read against the heaviness of Anna but now it’s equally heavy.

Many thoughts. Mainly causing me to mark up my other books and think more about them than before.

Jane will have to wait until after Anna…

Now resolved to begin Jane Eyre after finishing Anna Karinina, seems fitting actually as I’ve heard them compared and contrasted; and I myself am “undertaking my own grand tour…educating myself (and children) to contradict the one I’ve already paid for…” Uncle Sam…a wasteful education. A 16 year old recently told me it’s one of her favorites she’s read several times…it felt like Emma and the Duke.

‘Then came Roland’s smile, “St George is not the only one who can slay a dragon, Emma Lion. I’ve seen you wield a sword.” It was, perhaps, the most wonderful compliment I’ve ever been paid. I intend to keep Roland.’ 🤌🏼🥲

Her describing leading the tenant into the Keep like leading Dante into hell…phenomenal…loving the references in this series. Easy to read but better when your well read.
