Totally surprised by how devoted to his mother Kevin Hart is, and how challenging his childhood was. It makes sense why Kevin’s characters on TV and movies are so respectful to women even to the point of leaving him looking “weak”. Makes me love him more!

This book was recommended to me by a friend I met in Barcelona. Now nearing the end, I’m dreading every turn of the page wishing it would go on forever.

72% of the way through, I can’t help but wish this book would never end. Hurry! Someone recommend me something of equal awesomeness so I don’t have to stop reading after it’s done. 😭

"Willpower is the single most important quality responsible for an individual's success."

Highly motivated individuals with self discipline are more successful than those with intellectual talent because they turn productive tasks into habit. Willpower occurs without them having to think about it.

It takes 28 days to form a habit that occurs with 87% regularity. It takes 36 days to form a habit that occurs naturally with 95% regularity. Practice makes perfect because our brain adapts to something in order to work less to do something we often perform with repetition. It's biological. Otherwise, our brain would work on overdrive constantly and drive us insane.

"Take massive action." Basically -- it takes energy to do ANYTHING. Including doing nothing. What would you rather do? NOTHING? Or SOMETHING that's productive for you? Realize that everything you do requires energy and allot your energy to the things you know will be productive and bring you success.

He's a little over the top. I don't know if I can stomach 23 chapters of the same crap. But there are a few salvageable quotes so far:

"If you aren't putting your energy to work for yourself, you'll become a slave to someone else who wants to use your energy as a resource."

The character development in this book is insane. I love that it shows rather tells, and how the Golem and Jinni are these new humans who are basically babies in adult form and adapting to our culture, mannerisms, and odd rituals. It makes me realize how strange we are, and how odd we must seem as a species.

So far, so good! Compared to Ready Player One, I'd say this is lighter reading (way less character development than RPO), and it borrows a lot of references from popular feel-good geek-turned-hero stories, but with an Ernest Cline twist. If you like Ready Player One, you'll like Armada.

This book series, so far, is tolerable and mildly entertaining at best. As for amazing character development and believable post-apocalyptic setting? It's definitely lacking. I don't find myself desperately wanting to turn pages, and the 16-year-old lead characters are thoroughly unconvincing. The text reminds me of bad roleplay. I received these books as a gift, though, so I'm getting through them!

This might be one of the best books I've read in a long time. The fight scenes remind me so much of para-roleplaying. Such complexity in the characters, just the right amount of shock, good deaths, amazing hierarchies and politics, and even a splash of romance.

Lynch's penchant for feminism is really something lovely to read. I love the complexity and mystery of Sabetha. Lynch hardly plays into gender roles, and when he does, his characters mostly assume these stereotypes as a means to subterfuge. All of his novels in the Gentleman Bastard series follow this theme. Nothing is ever as it seems in Lynch's world.

Lynch is the master of leaving the reader hanging. He concludes most of his chapters with an interruption of some kind, a plot twist or cliff hanger. I come to expect it, really, as I progress through this book.

Chains! Cali! Galdo! Sabetha! Locke's time as a orphan in Camorr is arguably one of my favorite periods of his life. I'm happy to see so much more added backstory. If this were a movie, I'd be flipping out right now.
