I don’t think this book should be classified as “thriller” anything. I’m also feeling meh about it. It’s easy to read but overall the plot is thin for a commercial fiction novel. And every chapter just feels like a “will she get caught now?” And then she doesn’t in a boring way. I’m not very interested in her or anything happening tbh

So she’s writing and that’s that ig. Nothing bad. Nothing too good.

For a bit I wasn’t rlly feeling the stakes? Like I was just reading a white lady be racist and I still am but I guess it’s kinda getting better bc she’s getting called out now. But I still feel like the book is a bit slow. Most of it is June talking about how she feels as a racist and like eh it’s only interesting until it’s not. But it’s easy to read and I don’t ever feel myself wanting to put it down

June is so annoying. I don’t think she’s getting redeemed.

Some of this is solid advice, others I’m like this only applies to people in a certain situation, and all of it he keeps ruining but being racist

Tbh I kinda don’t care what happens right now? They had sex and it was anticlimactic imo and I know Tamlin and Feyre are gonna live after whatever battle they’re about to get themselves into, so I kinda don’t care about it. The drama is a little gone for me right now. I’m more intrigued by Nesta who I’m pretty sure is a magical creature hybrid because wdym the High Lord’s magic just DIDNT work on you??

And if I may add, that smut scene was not a smut scene and tbh after all the sexy shit I heard about this book I was expecting more. Do I ship these too? Probably not? I did a bit earlier but the way they got together UNDER THE INFLUENCE BOO and then had a mostly vanilla sex scene I’m like eh the thrill be gone tbh

I HATE JUNIE but the writing is very good. I like it! Although I liked it more before I learned Junie is white 💀

I like it so far. I like how I’m figuring out who knows what as I go and through context clues.

Chapter One done and no cap I’m HOOKED. The writing is both deep, unpredictable, literary, and accessible. The pace is quick and there are no lulls in between paragraphs it seems. I wanted to highlight so many things. I’m in!

I’m starting to think nothing I thought would happen in this book will happen lmao. Which is good and bad. I want something to happen between Hai and Russia (obviously), but of course (obviously) I want Sony to have an incredible happy ending. I also want Hai to reunite with his mom, but I don’t know how that will happen without a huge fight.

The last paragraph of page 76 ate.

Yep it’s gay now let’s GOOO it’s not like because ocean is gay he has to only write gay characters but like do we need more straight male protagonists—no. And ocean’s writing on sexuality is among the best writing PERIOD so I would have been very disappointed if his long awaited second novel didn’t comment on societal conceptions of sexuality and masculinity.

Near the end of the scene where they ride the bathtub I started to get the scene. I saw it and it was beautiful and sad.
