Somehow every deep dive into Southern attitudes before the Civil War makes the South look even worse, an astonishing feat for one of the most reprehensible nations in history. They didn’t just love slavery, they were also incredibly whiny and entitled about it.

And thus am I finished.

Finally, some good progress, but frankly the novel should have been two different stories, not both Raoul and the Man in the Iron Mask at the same time.

The first has fallen.

Did we need an entire chapter of Porthos refusing to get measured at the tailors. Did we.

Needed a copy-editing pass, it’s not as smooth as his stuff on US ships.

Pagination is still off, but I’m on 330 out of about 680 or so. God it’s been slow I fear.

I really can’t read it without hearing the voices from the ‘95 BBC miniseries.

A re-read, since Sarah checked it out from the library. Though it’s at least possible that I’ve actually only heard it on tape? Anyways, discovering new bits of humor this go-around.
