Stepan still in shame & confused as why he accepted to marry dasha (binded by varvara's word ?)

I missed to realise that witness X is leila even though i knew the narrative pov was of leila from the start. Damn this mystery books.

End of part one and i'm really impressed with the way story is flowing.

Venket desire is to get higher status in company and in society. Even though he is not getting promoted but is happy with the increase in salary. He wants his daughter to be friends with rich and influential family.
