Story 8 - Liking What you See a Documentary

Probably the most captivating idea, but the story drags

Story 7 - Hell is the Absence of God

Depressing for the lack of a better word. A re-adaptation of the book of Job sans the happy ending. Life is suffering, enjoy it, I guess? 🤷‍♂️

Story 6 - The Evolution of Human Science

Worked a private equity conference today. For all the talk of replacing jobs (and people) with ai to maximize growth, profit, and time, these 6 figure suits barely knew how to operate their own laptops.

Nice bit of catharsis reading the last lines of this one: "we should always remember that the tech that made (ai) possible was invented by humans no smarter than we"para .:

Seventy-two Letters - really could not get into this one. Interesting concepts explored, but gets dragged down heavily by constant diatribes into the details of a biology that doesnt exist. Might give it another go in the future, but just not the type of fiction I'm looking for right now

Story of Your Life - The Arrival one

While I think the movie captured the sci-fi elements better. The emotional baggage of this story is brutal. A breakdown of memory, perception, and the barriers growing up builds between parents and children.

In essence, the whole story is just the tragedy of parenthood: meeting a new creature, learning its language, but unable to achieve fluency, then in a moment, they're gone.

Gonna just log the individual short stories before they fall into the ether of my memory.

The "Tower of Babylon's alright," not the tower itself (rip), but the story. One of those fun reinterpetations of past perceptions as scientific fact, playing with modern scientific understandings through antiquated ideologies, but overall found it kind of eh as an opening story. Decent prose, but fell too often into exposition

Horseman really just needed a therapist man. Lotta misdirected angst there

Debating on whether or not I want to keep going on this one. Beautiful prose, but drifting and not the vibe rn

Listening to the audio book. Always forget how much of the first act is just a 19th century Christian man rationalizing being a harpooner's bottom

Still fw it, but the main series really should have just ended w Dark Forest and just split off into anthology collections or something. Idk how many more doomsday scenarios and hibernation time skips I can take in one book.
