The writing is SO beautifully poetic and evocative. I'm listening to the audiobook narrated by Colin Salmon and he does a great job with the mood, although every now and then there are inflections, sighs, pace changes, etc which can't have been in the text and I'm never really a fan of that in audiobooks.

CH.5 The idea of male rage at the failure of patriarchy to provide fulfillment being displaced onto victims through domination in sex rings true. And that men are led into this partially via the media since childhood, it's probably way worse since hooks wrote this due to the internet too. The idea about men needing an anti-patriarchal space to be open with their sexuality and love outside of sex makes sense to me

Ch.4 This chapter was a lot more cohesive. The explanation behind physical and emotional abuse by both men and women as a result of patriarchal reinforcement makes a lot of sense to me. Important idea about the potential for change in a negative sense despite former anti-patriarchal thinking, particularly as men become older. However still more claims without citations. I like the strong emotive anecdotes.

The stuff about why and how anger is perpetuated through the patriarchy was interesting. Same with a boy's relationship with their father, and a father with their son. The Harry Potter example felt odd and kinda incorrect. There are also lots of blanket statements in this book presented as fact, but with no evidence or citations, which is a shame because it's hard to then entertain the interesting ideas put forth
