Wow, another thing in this book actually shocking me???? With actual foreshadowing when taking into account events of the book and movie???? Sucks that it’s getting good about 70% of the way through

Props to the book and author for actually shocking me with a character death. However, it feels kinda sloppy as the character never grew beyond a one-dimensional stereotype before dying. Willing to eat my own words though the deceased becomes more interesting posthumous

Taking back my last complaint. Fred just yelled “now” while trying to spring a trap, this is fan service at its finest

They discuss symptoms of people who were attacked chapters earlier now, when there may be another attack. Maybe it’s just me, but this feels like another example of weird writing. Especially when they say how guilty Thorn feels about the hospitalizations, but only reveal that now? Guess she didn’t feel too guilty if it’s only coming up what’s in canon days later

“I’m lost in this merry-go-round of gay panic”

It’s really dumb that they finally decide to give Dusk some character depth, a little past the halfway mark, instead of just stating it like they have the whole book thus far. I’M TOO EXCITED ABOUT THE CRYSTAL COVE NAME DROP TO CARE THOUGH!

Chapter ten was extremely cringey, are we sure this book isn’t high school/middle grade and not YA?

I’m enjoying it far more than I expected to, but I had some low expectations. Besides certain characterizations of these characters (THORN), my largest problem is the writing style, as it feels too elementary to consider itself YA. This definitely fits more as a middle-grade to early high school novel. Maybe they just pitched it as YA as a last-ditch effort to garner sales?
