I wish I had access to an audio book version of this read entirely by Mary Oliver, and I could sit in a grassy field on a sunny day and pretend that I have no responsibilities in life :)

Let’s not talk about how it’s taken me like three months to get halfway through this book

The scene that I just read is probably the most stereotypical “character realises they have some kind of super power” scene that I have ever read. Not her rushing into the bathroom and seeing that her reflection has changed in the mirror 😱

“Her small, high breasts rising and falling”?????? Men are no longer allowed to write anything ever

I hate this man. You only feel empathy for her because she’s physically attractive?? I don’t think this book has aged particularly well

My confusion persists

“Conically breasted foreign ladies” is certainly a sentence

This book is fucking weird

Maria’s pov is the only one that I like at all and that’s because she’s the only one whose a vampireeeee
Why is there such a lack of vampires in the vampire book? I’m so impatient

So I’ve discovered that I kinda hate historical fiction 😃 so this’ll be fun

I like how it’s unclear if the version of her husband that came back is her actual husband, or the doppleganger from the tower
I wonder if in later books, they travel to the island and we discover that he made it there

Some of the horror aspect and unnervingness is lost on me because I’m so bloody confused

First chapter done

I’ve gotten used to the writing style, and now the way the biologist talks to the audience is actually quite fun to read.
This makes me wanna watch the movie, even though I know it’s quite an unfaithful adaption haha

Holy shit my head hurts
This book is very clearly a translation. Not that the translation is bad, just that you can tell based on the somewhat disjointed and unfamiliar sentence structure.
I suspect this will take me forever to read because every sentence is so densely packed with imagery and explicatives.

I wonder if this book is meant to be interpreted as a metaphor for grief, or for vicarious trauma, or is Leah really is turning into a fish

God this is so well written. I love love the seemingly random stories that Miri tells which in the end always wrap around to highlight the bizarre ways Leah is acting and the suffocating air that something is just…”off” about her

Calling it for the night, but I am having the most wonderful time in this work
I honestly love how mundane and simple every day is

The gangs coming togetherrrr im so excited hehehehe

The chapters are so short and fun and I am flying through them. Very interested to know who’s hanging out in the cafe. I think we might acquire a child character haha

I’m having an absolutely marvellous time so far
