Every so often, you open a book that from the first page captures you, pulls you in and makes you want to keep reading even when you can't. I've only just begun and I can't wait to curl up with my book tonight and a glass of wine and spend more time with this spectacular, powerful arresting prose.

40% in and I needed a break from the intense boredom. It's a book club book so I have to finish it, but wow, this book is a slog. A kind of bitter, angry, jealous, rough around the edges slog.

You know when you start a book and from the first page, you just know you're going to love it? And then you grab whatever five minutes you can to read another few pages? And then you just swoon over the language and originality and beauty and truth? Yeah, this book. All that. And I've only just begun!

Loving this book! The writing is arresting and compelling, gorgeous rich style. It's also enjoyable that it's set in Toronto, I understand the locations, if not the culture.

This is my first ever novel in verse, and I'm feeling very swoony over the language. God, it's gorgeous. I wasn't sure I'd be as compelled by this style, but I very much am. Stunning.

Only a day in and a quarter done this book, and I'm already captivated. Having lived in Korea in the past, I'm easily able to picture many of the scenes, style of dress, markets, and even aspects of the social mores that are outlined in the first quarter. What's interesting to me is that I was there 80 years later, and yet I can so easily transport myself into the world being created by Lee. Loving it!!!

Why am I reading this book? Not sure yet... I loved the Nightingale, and I like the author's writing style, but I really hate Alaska. Not sure why I thought I would like this, but I'm going to keep pushing. So far, I haven't found much of a plot to be had. Trying to be patient and trust the author.

Dear The Nest,

I really really hate you. I hate all your characters. I hate your premise. I hate the superficial entitled money driven world that for some bewildering reason has made you a popular book. What the fuck, masses? What the fuck, book club? Ughhhhhhh

Oh this one is gonna be a slog. Thanks for the shitty pick, book club. UGH. I hated the description, and the book is not endearing me to it further at this point. JOY.

Boo. Giving up on this boring bad boy. So sad when characters you love are just taken down a slow death path, boo.
