Good plot twists, but I can't help like feeling they don't make sense in context with the rest of the plot

I feel like the chapters end abruptly on a minor cliff hanger and the next chapter just skips over it. I feel like I'm missing context or we skip over time

slightly repetitive, slightly predictable; overall though, solid read so far. Interesting enough plot

Love!
I really like the dynamic between our main characters and their positions in the community.

very interesting plot; I like the characters already and being so close to home I feel a special connection to the story and the setting. It is kind of hard to understand the Gullah dialogue from Nana Jean but I work through it. My grandmother's name is Barbra Jean and I am named after her so I also feel a special connection to Nana Jean :)

I'm very close to DNFing this book. Again, the plot itself is intriguing but the writing is NOT!

The storyline/plot in and of itself is interesting. I am engaged enough to want to know more about each character and their stories. However, I'm not a fan of the structure of the book. My biggest issue right now is the lack of a timeline. We switch from past to present without notice so I feel lost at times. I also don't like the switch between 3rd and 1st person. I'm not a fan of Jude's story narration at all.

Each of the characters' stories are developing; each unique and interesting. I do feel like the writing feels like a run on sentence a lot. I also feel like many times the writing is unfollowable or unreadable because of the multiple side notes within one statement or description. It makes it confusing and easy to get lost. But again, the lives of each of the characters are intriguing.

In book 4 now :) I've reached a major plot twist that had my jaw dropped. The way it came about however, I don't know if it made the most sense? It was really unexpected the way it went down. Still love reading this book however, excited to read what else might happen!

Currently just got to a slightly major plot twist. still a very intellectual read that I am enjoying. I found, however, that this is book that I must devote all my attention to. Whereas with other books, I am able to have background noise, I cannot do this with Babel. I must really focus on what I am reading to comprehend the vocabulary and plot. There can be no distractions.

I feel like people should talk about this book the way they talk about "Animal Farm" by George Orwell. Kuang draws very relevant parallels in her book to modern society's reliance on technology and the greed that arises from the rise of this industry. The widening gaps between the rich and poor, academics and those without a degree, the haves and the have nots is a timeless story and relevant in every way to today.

I am really enjoying Kuang's writing. I am captivated by her flow, I could sit for hours reading. The story is starting to quicken up a bit. I still am not a fan of the footnotes. The underlying themes and messages that the author is addressing are particularly interesting and I find to be of upmost importance, especially in the context of the state of modern society globally.

I like the way the author writes, I could read for hours if I didn't have other things to do :) However, I don't like the asterisks and footnotes; it makes me feel like I'm reading a textbook sometimes and because they're so small I sometimes miss them and have to skim the page I already read to find where it is and what exactly the footnotes are referring to. I really like the story concept :)

So far, so good. first chapter flows very well. I did have to look up a few words here and there and it took me a bit to realize where Canton is, but overall, I could see myself sitting for hours continuing reading this book. I am intrigued by the story line as well.

I don't know but I feel like we just jumped in the middle of the story, no background or anything. I feel like I am trying to catch up to the author, like I'm behind. I've had to reread certain parts because I get lost in what feels like run on sentences. The flow is weird to me.

The synopsis sounded so good, but I don't like the flow so far.

He uses a lot of references that I'm not familiar with. I don't want to stop every couple of pages just to look up said references; when I read, I like to do just that. READ, not research.

I noticed he separates the book into smaller sections called "books" instead of referring to them as parts like most authors; I find this weird.

I like how King starts out his novels with two different storylines then connects them together later, he did this in The Institute as well which is one of my favorites. This book is very engaging so far, King NEVER misses

The information I'm learning is very concerning. My mouth kept dropping with each page. I will say I am not a fan of how this book is organized. The information jumps around to different time periods, repeats information and I often found myself confused about when certain events happened. I had to look back to previously read chapters to make sure I was keeping up.

This has the echoes of the Emmet Till story embedded the plot, very interesting plot twist. The plot has thickened enough to where i find myself not wanting to but the book down

I like the way the author describes the setting and uses southern/country “slang” even throughout her narration. Interesting turn of events but nothing too spectacular yet.

It’s all coming together now; I was definitely anxious during these past several pages. Stephen King knows exactly how to make your stomach churn through his detailed accounts.

Forgot to update: the minor plot twist had me shook and the way King just causally threw it in the plot was crazyyyyy. I’m interested to see how he will bring together the 2 separate plots (I have a theory about this though)
