I feel like people should talk about this book the way they talk about "Animal Farm" by George Orwell. Kuang draws very relevant parallels in her book to modern society's reliance on technology and the greed that arises from the rise of this industry. The widening gaps between the rich and poor, academics and those without a degree, the haves and the have nots is a timeless story and relevant in every way to today.

In book 4 now :) I've reached a major plot twist that had my jaw dropped. The way it came about however, I don't know if it made the most sense? It was really unexpected the way it went down. Still love reading this book however, excited to read what else might happen!

Currently just got to a slightly major plot twist. still a very intellectual read that I am enjoying. I found, however, that this is book that I must devote all my attention to. Whereas with other books, I am able to have background noise, I cannot do this with Babel. I must really focus on what I am reading to comprehend the vocabulary and plot. There can be no distractions.

I am really enjoying Kuang's writing. I am captivated by her flow, I could sit for hours reading. The story is starting to quicken up a bit. I still am not a fan of the footnotes. The underlying themes and messages that the author is addressing are particularly interesting and I find to be of upmost importance, especially in the context of the state of modern society globally.

I like the way the author writes, I could read for hours if I didn't have other things to do :) However, I don't like the asterisks and footnotes; it makes me feel like I'm reading a textbook sometimes and because they're so small I sometimes miss them and have to skim the page I already read to find where it is and what exactly the footnotes are referring to. I really like the story concept :)

So far, so good. first chapter flows very well. I did have to look up a few words here and there and it took me a bit to realize where Canton is, but overall, I could see myself sitting for hours continuing reading this book. I am intrigued by the story line as well.
