3.3-4stars for me. It was a five for the longest time, but as time went on, it did drop a bit. One of the problems I have with it is how the theme of misunderstanding was used for about 400-500 pages. He walks in, misreads the situation, which could easily be cleared up, gets upset he thinks she's not who he thought she was, then she gets sad..for 100s of pages. It's still good, but it's something to keep in mind.

This is why classic literature is my favorite. This is why I adore Burney.

This book still has me hooked. I like the slow pacing, the slow unfolding of characters and events, and I am liking some of the themes Burney is using. The only grievance I can share is my dislike for Miss Margland and her interfering with Camilla's possible relationship. The dialogue from Dr. Orkborne saying something along the lines of "You can never travel with too many books" really spoke to me as well!

A very strong 5. While not far, there is nothing I dislike so far. There are: interesting lessons, interesting characters, good plot, and I like his writing story. There are also lessons of language and history that I did not know that I am also loving!

A good 5 so far. This book shows why I like Burney. Not only her writing style, but it also has elements I can't find anywhere else, which is: happy scenes, not just assault of all kinds, and death. In the Ch. "The Barn", they take in a family, whose father just escaped death, and give them more money, and Camilla shows such a wonderful side of herself, taking care of the baby and dancing with their kid. Love it!

As usual, this is my opinion. This book is between a 2 or 3 for me, closer to 2. It has a lot of good things, but there is so much I do not like; what seems like weird early teenage romance, a fairly dense main character, and plot elements of fantasy that I really dislike, such as dream sequences. Even if I did like it, I don't think I could continue with Simon's journey; I really don't like him.

I have heard so many wonderful things about this, mostly from incredible book reviewers. I am excited to get started!

3.5. I honestly liked it; from the silliness of The Beautiful Cassandra to the ending of the story of Catherine when she finds out Edward has left. Honestly...I feel sad and kind of empty now that the story is over.

I am finding this book to be delightfully charming; it plays into a kind of absurdity that I love. In the short story The Beautiful Cassandra, the main character, unable to pay the person who drove her, puts her bonnet on his head and just runs away. What???

I am really enjoying the book so far.(Some spoilers). I do like some of the themes Burney is using, such as the pursuit of knowledge; whether through Mr. Tyrold, the seemingly sporadic teachings of Sir Hugh, or the tutoring of Eugine; I really, really like that in a book. The only other thing is poor Eugine! Getting the pox, and from what I can tell a sort of facial deformity, then a dislocated shoulder. Poor girl!

There's really not much to add after the last one. We are getting to the section of William the Conqueror, which I do not know much about; it should be interesting. One fascinating note is how sometimes just probability, or more simply put just luck, can turn events; in this case the timing of William setting the invasion.

...what? I have only heard of this book in passing, and I decided to read a little bit while taking a quick break; I read it in one night. Also, this is not the version I read, it's just the closest I could find. I'm not really sure what to think. It was a four star for the longest time, but after ch 18, and the rest, I think I will give it a 3.5-3.8 for right now. I'm just not sure; the last few chs just tore me up.

A little slow at first, it's really picked up after the first 40ish pages, and I am liking it so far. I've found an interesting character in Alfred the Great; reading on how he pushed for learning, even translating books, is so fascinating. The only downside I can really mention is that there seems to be no map; that can make it difficult to follow if you want a more visual experience.

Not far enough to form an informed opinion, but I have really enjoyed it so far. The setting is interesting, the character dynamics, while one of them has me curious and a feeling a little weird about, are interesting, and I am invested in the plot. Also, I really enjoy her writing style.

This will be my third Burney novel, and I am so excited for it. I hope I enjoy it as much as I enjoyed Evelina.

I know I can say that this is one of my favorite books of all time!

I recently bought the Oxford World's Classics edition of this text, which has improved the reading experience even more! This book will definitely go into my top 10 favorite books of all time; not an easy feat.

This story makes me feel things I just can't put into words. Has anyone else had that happen?

So far, color me charmed and amused.

3.5 so far. I am liking it, but I do have one fairly large grievance: why do I know more about secondary characters (Julia and Maria ex.) than the main character (Fanny)? Is she the MC or not? I think I know more about pretty much every other character than her. I did not buy this book to read about another abhorrent love triangle or about cheating, which seems to be so inexplicably pervasive in the romance genre.

Loving it! I enjoy the subtle observations Fanny has in her social settings.
