This is clearly Kuangs most commercial novel and so I’m not surprised it’s already my least favourite.

Glad I read some reviews that mentioned this is a prequel to a new duology so I can adjust my expectations!

Im enjoying the second chance romance of it all but the FMC feels a little pick me (emo version) and the metalhead thing isn’t really my vibe tbh.

Im trying to figure out why I think this ex-dramione fic works and some others don’t but I can’t quite put my finger on it.

Maybe because the original fic was super OOC anyways?

This is a Man Fantasy. This is how men would like women to act, how men want to be able to drink, how men want to interact with each other in Fantasy Land. This book is wish fulfilment.

Clearly, I'm at a point where I should DNF but I feel like I've already committed.

I hate to say it but I’m quite bored with this. I think I need a little more personality out of my non fiction.

Okay the only female pov character is the MC’s sister who’s planning to run away with a soldier and is smitten with him.

Dialogue is noticeably clunky but I think the fight scenes are well written and I’m super interested in the world building/lore.

I mean this is the nicest way possible but I can tell this is an indie debut.

Repeated dialogue, about 15 minor characters more than we need and the way the prose feels almost like it’s describing shots in a film rather than the flow of a scene for a novel - all these things would be caught by a good editor.

About two woman have been introduced verses about 8 or 9 men… I don’t like those odds
