Surprisingly relatable for a book written over a hundred years ago on the other side of the world. Some of the discussions of morals have dated a little though.

I think that I would have had much less patience with all the elaborate sciencey details in text, but the audio book is great and the actor does a good job.

Cassio is such an antisocial pretentious wanker, I don't understand how I'm supposed to care about anyone in this book. Honestly wouldn't have made it past the first page if it weren't for book club.

With casual fatphobia throughout, the sex scenes are described so clinically, with a misogynistic crudeness that's not even charming like other adolescent fiction such as Big Mouth, just gross and off-putting, with bizarre descriptions of "meatworms" spilling out "magma". If the aim was to disgust the reader, it's working. The story is so disjointed, jumping from random point to point, that it's incomprehensible.

Love love loved The Spider and the Stars! Set in Australia with hilarious corellas and surprisingly adorable giant spiders, so hopeful and warm.

Her writing is so good, but oof, this is hard going.

Can't tell if it's the translation or if the original was like this, but the wording is so bizarrely clinical and overly complex that it's almost impossible to understand what is going on.

Thrillingly scathing, a mic drop on every page. The anecdotes of harassment are so heartbreaking though. 💔
