borges is such a writer’s writer. he is so intimately familiar with such an absurd breadth of literary figures, styles, and forms, and so adept at the actual components of constructing his work, that with him i feel hyperaware of the act of reading in a mesmerising and deeply appreciative way. it is an utterly different type of immersion, immersion in the craft as well as the narrative he produces.

okay i was wrong, the last 150 pages of this book were perfect and recontextualised my opinion on the entire thing! full review pending :3

i really don’t think anyone does modern political theory like parenti. he is the platonic ideal of meeting people where they’re at, coherent, concise, and extremely readable without ever talking down. he unpicks complex relationships and explores challenging concepts in a clear, witty, and deeply powerful way.
