borges is such a writer’s writer. he is so intimately familiar with such an absurd breadth of literary figures, styles, and forms, and so adept at the actual components of constructing his work, that with him i feel hyperaware of the act of reading in a mesmerising and deeply appreciative way. it is an utterly different type of immersion, immersion in the craft as well as the narrative he produces.
