So far so interesting, so captivating and I hope this streak continues. I love the storyline. Jeanette has a way with painting a picture. She has a way of making the literal world come to life so vividly. One tiny issue comes to mind though. I don’t know if it’s just a copy I have, but some words are jumbled up and it’s so hard sometimes to flow with the story while trying to un-jumble the words.

Love yourself first

I love the plot development of this book. I love the author’s style of writing.
There are so many quotable gems from this book.
It is definitely a page-turner.

The plot started off at a good pace.
The last two chapters were a slow burn though.
I found that the author over explained some scenes.
Some storylines are also repetitive which puts a dumper on the story.
Hope the plot picks up though.

I feel conflicted. I love the author’s style of writing of being genuine with his feelings and viewpoints. However, his initial judgments on his patients make me uneasy. I get that therapist are just normal people, just like the rest of us, but a part of me also hopes that a therapist’s office is a judgment free zone. When Irvin at times judges his patients’ appearance and what not, he comes off as unprofessional.

Momentarily shelved this book. The entries were starting to veer off to topics I didn’t care about eg her estate activities, meeting the Tsar and home schooling. Really loved her entries on the challenges in her marriage; her unmet expectations in the marriage and/or partnership; challenges of being both a wife and a mother and her thoughts on her moral standing on issues.

The chapter I am on is a smooth read. Heavy topics being discussed but put forward in an easy to synthesize way. It feels like the author is just having a conversation with me. Love that the author doesn’t shy away from his real thoughts and feelings towards heavy topics. I also love that he doesn’t make himself come off as cookie cutter. This makes me more open to hear his opinions as they come of as genuine.

Sophia's thoughts sometimes appear to be taken out of my own conscience. Her words, emotions, state of mind and inner critic come off as mirror of what my mindset was when I was in a relationship. It's like holding a mirror in front of me and seeing the ugly, the self doubts, the critics, the self hate and the need to be heard and seen.
I wish I could reach out through the pages and give her a hug and assure her.
