Wild. My heart breaks for the poor children that were born into this hell on earth.

Book is feeling like 3 stars. It is entertaining, but I still have to make myself go back to it. Lots of idioms, similes, and metaphors to the point where I noticed how frequently they showed up.
Some of them machismo gave me a secondhand embarrassment.

As other reviewers have stated, this is really two books smashed together that are only connected by time and location. If you are interested in the politics involved in the planning, developing, and implementing of the Chicago World's Fair AND you like a much smaller murder sub-plot, this is the book for you. If you are hoping for a book about a serial killer and aren't interest in the Fair, you'll be disappointed.

This book opened my eyes to the recklessness of submarine behavior between the Soviets and the Americans. Close calls and instigation on both sides. It’s a miracle that the Cold War didn’t turn hot from this behavior!
