Only now I have reached the point of the story, that is not in the blurb. And let me tell you it was not an entertaining read at all...

Gotta stop reading bizarre books for shits and gigs, because it often lacks the gigs and it is a lot more shit than I would like. This is terrible. I have read fanfictions better than this, and I am not even talking about the good fanfictions. I picked this, because it sounded "bad" in the haha way but it is just bad period. Well he is finally a horse at least..

Okay I love the pacing and how we get two different time-lines, I did not like the "telling a story" aspect of it initially but it works very well. Love the depiction of vampires. The dialogue is sometimes cringe lol, but it is mainly Gabriel and I kinda cringe over him and his character anyways, so I honestly don't care. I am very much enjoying this!

Let me just say that if Gabriel and Jean-François are not gonna fuck by the end of this book I am gonna lose it. Okay? okay.

When will this end ugh

mah, i just never cared I guess? about the plot...so even a pretty okayish book, that this probably feels like it drags and is uninteresting?

I don't know, I have a feeling it is me not the book? But also...nothing is fucking happening in here?

I do not understand why this book has that high of a rating.

I am kind of bored.

The progress in the romance makes no sense, because they had tension and attraction but then they had their fight, but it actually had no consequence? And suddenly they are in love. But there was no love only attraction and tension, not much of actual angst and suddenly all is well and we would die for each other?
Also the threat of the brother is just weak, alongside worldbuilding and reasoning of most decisions.

I have a feeling this kind of lost its momentum? Like lets get something going

Okay HEAR ME OUT!!!
I wanted something to read that I knew would be bizarre and fun, that I could hate and have a blast.
But AND HEAR ME OUT - this is actually good? Like I dunno, I am not even halfway in, but so far? I dig this, it is not a GREAT PIECE OF FICTION but it is exactly what it says it is and for that I am grateful - grateful for our freedom of speech, so we can write and read about huge fucking merman.

This is the best found family I have read alongside Kaladin's story in The Way of Kings bro... I am crying

Well shit, this is cute as fuck

So I suppose here is where I should be devastated but to be honest with you, the relationship with Jest and Cath was fun only for a short time and the whole "will they won't they" kind of made me numb to their decisions concerning their love (that I did not feel) and I never cared for them much as characters even separately to feel this.
I also think that this whole situation was described without much real emotion.

God this shit got repetitive and became stereotypical bad romantasy real fast lol. Why am I reading the same information sixteen times? What was interesting in the first half of this book is GONE. And ofc the characters are suddenly almost different people after the main characters "mate" (ew ew ew).

I was enjoying this book. It just worked even if it should not. It is objectively very topey, cliche and unimaginative romantasy. I was however enjoying myself a lot!
But I cannot stay silent on the leading up to and the spicy scene. It felt undeserved, inconsistent and incredibly cringe. I had "AI wrote this" feeling from it. I am not saying it was used, but the dialogue etc just felt like fanfiction I wrote at 13.

But to be fair, the conversation happening here is good as fuck...not sure we deserve it? but...yeah...it works on me

Gods I DON'T CARE? What is with this pacing and plot? What even is supposed to be the plot? This should be the villain origin story and so far I have got NOTHING that would suggest so? Why is nothing of significance? This book is only good when Jest and Cath are together otherwise it is inconsequential and boring, I am sorry. I liked it the first maybe 20% but it is going downhill bad...

It is getting quite boring. After the initial good vibes I feel like it is moving nowhere and so many scenes are just not important. This is a book for somebody who does not want to think that much and just wants to enjoy some fictional world casually. And that is really not me. After 38% I have been given not much tbh. But maybe the devastating heartbreaking ending everyone is talking about will change it for me yet

Yes, this is for me lol
It is repetitive sometimes and it is slower when it comes to pacing, but when Jest is present, I don't even see left or right tbh.
It is obvious, that it is YA, and I do not read YA, as it often is not believable to me, especially in depictions of characters and their decisions etc.
But this is so far just a fun little book, that is more atmospheric almost? I like it a lot!

Hm, I don't know what to think of this. I guess I need to finish the third story as well to really form any opinions.

Alright - the show is way better than the source imo.
Just as I am now starting the second story, I will be able to really taste this book and its contents, because so far the show was too present in my mind.
But it is nice, swift and fun - so much so I am yearning for more depth, more adventures, more of everything, which i know i won't get in a short story. But I fear it will take away from my enjoyment anyways :((
