A weighty tome, forsooth, but so far an engaging and interesting description of Nietzsche's life and philosophy. The author draws extensively on Nietzsche's personal notebooks and the writings of those who knew him, plus correspondence between N. and friends & acquaintances, which provide much insight into his thoughts and feelings (& health), as well as the development of his philosophical and metaphysical thinking.
