So far my biggest issue with this book is the interruptions from Femi and Charlotte. It feels like an editor has said ok at this point I think we need a check in in case the reader is confused…and also make it clear that this isn’t how you (the author) think about Africa. I can see why they’ve done it but at the min it seems like a gimmick too far.

Audiobook audible. 4 hours left. Not as good as I was expecting but possibly due to the voices.

Listening to the audiobook narrated by Ben whishaw. Perfect voice for it.

Didnt finish. After a strong start I began to get bored. Then the loan ran out.
Maybe try another time.

Physical copy. Bought at Mount Edgcumbes little used book cabin. Only drawback is reading in low light! Not sure if it’s going anywhere v exciting but keen to continue. It’s not a huge book.

Hard to keep track but am enjoying trying to follow along and pick up on the different voices.

Im kind of interested but not hugely. The monk storyline sounded like it would be interesting but guess it’s all a bit dry. Mostly background noise at work. Here’s to hoping it picks up towards the end. Think prob is ive just not felt anything towards the characters so far.

Loving the way this books weaving all its viewpoints and increasing unreality together. Still getting a bit triggered by the drunken misogyny but trying to persevere dont think will quit now.
Except now im also dreading the loss of Hallorann

Persevering. It’s getting steadily creepier and some cool sentences and scenes. Still finding jacks inner monologues grating.

Chapter 24 is just called Snow. Perfect

At the awful stage where the snow comes so they can’t leave. For months. I feel sick thinking about it. Even without the horror bits.
Crazy topiary scene. Excellent.

Still bored

48 minutes left. I read these all up to about book 15 years ago. Now on library app so listening to the early ones for a fun listen at work.
Not great literature but really well paced books with a stellar main character and a cast of returning characters who keep getting more fleshed out.

Im going to finish this but part of me is just thinking it’s incredibly silly.
But also really want to see what happens next.

Still good. Getting increasingly bizarre. Baby murder and swapping just happened? If it’s not an hallucination. Who knows?

2.5 hours left on audio.
Not loving it but keep giving it bit more chance. Started quite interesting but seems to be getting worse.
Also the audio is v distracting. The female voice is pretty good but then other voices are added in for people supposed to be in the same room which just don’t fit.

Good start. Where is this going? Don’t care at all. It’s a fun central character and bizzare behaviour all around them too. :))
