I’m curious about the Rachel Miotti story (the woman whose dragging death is mentioned several times). I was curious whether it was a real story and it turns out there is a real woman in Connecticut called that (but I think she’s alive and well). Presumably just a coincidence.

Lo’s still kind of an idiot even when she is not drinking like a fish. This chick is a journalist?!

Although she apparently is the only one who didn’t age or change dress sized after 10 years and 2 kids— why add that detail? It’s weird.

I want to know what happens, but the pacing seems slower than necessary.

The audiobook narrator has used the word primely several times when I would have expected primly. Is this different pronunciation that I’m not familiar with.

Why is the president named Bret(t) Boone? Is it just a coincidence or is it supposed to be a reference to the ball player

The police didn’t interview this girl after she called them and they arrested him?! And now she’s thinking of destroying the evidence she collected.

And how can she promise her friend that the other issue won’t be revealed? Does no one besides her dig into things?!

I couldn’t figure out why a British writer would set a story in CT. It’s kind of distracting that the geography is correct and some things feel right (like the train station) but others don’t. Even Columbia seems like the wrong choice for Pip.
It irked me enough that I looked into it. Apparently there’s a separate American and UK version. WHY? Seems unnecessary. Still a fun listen on my commute.

I’m definitely engaged and want to know what happens. But this girl makes some very dumb and dangerous decisions! And I really wish she’d talk to her parents!

I live in CT and found some things distracting- no way would people leave their keys under their mats in Fairfield County. Especially after the home invasion in Cheshire which was major news- and the story is set after that.

49 percent! For a supposed study- but nerdy kid she takes way too many risks!

Is the writer British? The kids say clever and ring in ways CT kids wouldn’t,

... I’ve seen lots of odd kid quirks but I’ve never seen this sort of thing— kids are more likely to want to wear the SAME thing every day.

Also- I’m thinking the triplets’ mom may have “broken” because she joined a family where an overwhelmed parent is expected to give in to the absurd whims of a preschooler by buying dozens? -Hundreds? -of costumes for them to wear a different one every day. I’m all for not sweating the small stuff— you want to wear plaid with paisley, be my guest— but this seems a) overly indulgent and b) unrealistic-

Does this get any better? The dialogue is odd. Why are the adults laughing at and encouraging a child’s behavior - she assaulted her friend for not kissing her?!!?!! And not correcting 3 years old for wandering away from home?! I’m not saying to humiliate or torture them- just gently correct them/teach them. So far all the characters are like caricatures and very one dimensional.

I am really enjoying it so far. Especially the way it jumps back and forth between events pre - and post-collapse. Spoiler question..... I've been wondering for a while and just read something that might confirm it- is the Prophet Arthur's son?
