i just learned there's a book 5 being written and i i was NOT prepared to go into an ongoing series. if i don’t see more plot/action in this book, i will not be picking up book 5 when it releases

why is this series 90% dialogue and 10% plot

ALSO im wondering if there will be an enemies to lovers with huda and kamran? look, i only wanna see 2 outcomes for kamran - dead or with huda. he doesn't need a redemption arc or to be with alizeh

we're on book 3 and i'm still wondering if there will be a side plot with a drought? if jinn need water to live, and the kingdom is running out of water, it's only a matter of time. but there's only one book left so idk how that plot would be introduced and resolved within the next 2 books, if it happens at all. it would be a waste not to include it tho

interesting that both this series and the crowns of nyaxia series has a male lead with magical glowing marks like lighting strikes that only go up one half of his body and render one eye a bright glowing color

kamran is lowkey annoying but he is a soon-to-be king so i suppose he has to be. one moment he wants to pin a crime on azileh, the next to absolve her. he's not very bright or level-headed lol

this book is so boring. it has a plot, and yet NOTHING interesting happens

OH MY GOD CAN WE USE ANY OTHER CONJUNCTION you should not be starting every 3rd sentence with "but" for dramatic effect jfc

it really defeats the purpose of building tension and suspense when you bring the two characters back together within the first few chapters. what am i supposed to root for now?

i hope im not jinxing myself but im actually enjoying this so far? the thing is, broadbent has really beautiful prose and it's easy to follow. the main complaint i have rn is that the "challenges" in the underworld are contrived and boring and there's no ACTUAL stakes being presented. the action is nonexistent but i do like the character development

it’s a pretty easy read, but i'm a bit annoyed by how ... simplistic the descent into hell is. i mean, they have to hit 5 different levels of hell to find ancient artifacts, but there's hardly any challenges. just ghosts and creatures. there's nothing that makes it feel like they're in the underworld, no magic, no real fighting scenes. it's so underwhelming

okay i have some thoughts. first, i don't like how every female protagonist needs to be labeled as being "not special, plain, uninteresting". that archetype is tired.

second, the author takes a lot more from greek mythology than i thought. there is a god whose 6 kids chopped him to tiny pieces and banished him to the underworld? kronos, anyone?

i'm in another reading slump so i'm gonna read something easy and silly. i really didn't like the first half of this series but this one includes a similar concept to dantes inferno so? please don't let me down?

dnf'ing (for now?)

okay i'm dnf'ing this (for now? maybe forever?) i really think i liked it so much when i was younger because, well, i was a kid and i didn't really know what good writing looked like. i thought this was the pinnacle of fantasy. unfortunately it's been a month and i've only read one book and i have to drop this book and move on.
