“Do you miss her?” Parisa asked quietly.
They didn’t have to say her name aloud.
“Sometimes.” He missed Libby Rhodes the way he would miss having electricity. Or his left hand. He did not know how to function without her.

“The same as it always feels,” he replied, pouring another precarious glass and closing his eyes. “Now either sit and have a drink,” he beckoned, taking a sip, “or leave me the fuck alone.”

“But you picked [him]. Why?”
“Because he’s a masochist. And I’m a sadist.”

“I won’t fucking forgive him…. And I won’t forgive anyone else who makes me ask myself if I deserve to live.”

“I feel,” he said, raising his blue eyes to meet Tristan’s. “I feel immensely. But I must, by necessity, do it differently than other people.”
