does anyone else feel like nonfiction is way more of a slog than fiction? im trying to read a 280-smth page history book rn and i feel like im moving at a way slower pace compared to when i read smth fictional that’s about that length…maybe it’s the extra effort you have to put into following the “narrative” idk

why do i lwk struggle to read nonfiction sometimes, like im trying to read more history things but they take so much longer to get through than fiction. i guess it helps that there’s more of a narrative to follow in fiction?

obsessed with the fact that there’s a “did not finish” shelf in goodreads now, i can finally rant on here about all the books i tried reading but just couldn’t bring myself to finish

the latest revelation to come out from “mother mary comes to me” is that i am apparently 3 degrees of separation from arundhati roy. she talked about meeting her father during the late 80s, not long before he got a job managing a grape farm in katni, madhya pradesh, which so happens to be a small town where my dad grew up. small world!

genuinely think arundhati roy might be the most interesting character she’s ever created

Only thing stopping me from reading the whole book in one sitting is the fact that I have a Quizbowl tournament in the morning and probably should get some sleep. I was hooked from the first page with the characteristic evocativeness of Arundhati Roy’s writing.

I despise that the seduction industry has become an unfortunate product of capitalism, and I despise the ideas they are spreading and the violence against women it promotes. The dating scene is not great for heterosexual women like myself, and Ward is raising my awareness on just how bad it is. Excited to read the next chapter, where queer scholars weigh in on the tragedy of heterosexuality.

50% of the time I am crashing out over norms that were promoted in the 20th century with regards to heterosexual marriage and how it explains so much of today’s trends, and the other 50% of the time I feel like there’s a tad bit of redundancy. I am learning a lot, though!
