I had hoped he died. But, it's true though, most of the time life just goes on.

Gosh, Humbert is mad twisted (again, the extent of what men can do).

So far I love the book. It explores grief, brotherhood, and womanhood. Kinda reminds me of the relationships I have had throughout my entire life. Sadly I'm too tired to continue, I'm gonna finish this tomorrow okay.

I have finished the 14th part/chapter(?) and dare I say I struggled maintaining my composure upon reading this. I really tried to read this book as if it was a blank canvas—open for any kinds of interpretation and moral arguments—yet it is tremendously difficult to remain neutral to it. But, yeah, Humbert's backstory and the first days with Lolita. Yeah, I'm interested to read more (if only there's no kritsas tommrw)

YOO THE LAST CHAPTER explains furthermore about dialects; it offers many new interesting facts to me. Here, it dawned on me that Saussure always tries to say that changes in linguistics are mere coincidence, or more of; permanence are somply by chance. THE ENDING IS GOATED DAMN, IT IS POETIC since it emphasizes that eventually, linguistics should only concern itself with languages all through and through!

Finished the chapter on geographical differences. It is short yet exciting—probably the most interesting imo. I learned a lot about how different dialects is not merely caused by different regions; time plays a huge role. I've also just found out that there is an atlas for dialects (gilliron smt smt). I learned about isoglossematic (waves of dialect in atlas) OMG MANY THINGS but I can't really describe it sorry ;-;

Finished the diachronic linguistics part and I'd say maybe I love philology. I love to see the history of words (and it's less boring than the previous synchronic stuff). Oh, and learning alteration, analogy, popular etymology, and agglutination reminds me of my morphology/syntax class ngl. I forgot the exact term but analogy is that one backtrack (burgle > burglar thingy). This is an easier read definitely.

Synchronic stuff—reminds me of my ol' history class in highschool (the first thing we learned). GOSH I ALSO MET SYNTAGMATIC AND ASSOCIATIVE (PRAGMATIC) IN THIS UNIT! I feel like Kreidler referenced Saussure very much. Reading this feels like rereading semantics textbook but with a lot more details to digest. I don't understand this chapter as much as the previous ones though. I'm more interested with diachronic tho!

I'd say this unit a decent read. It's lovely to see how this specific part gives an extensive explanation on the arbitrariness of language (and changes throughout the years must not be the focus of linguistics). Yet, Saussure also stated that language is unchanging. So, yeah, language has this duality. I'm happy to see the word synchronic and diachronic again, reminds me of my highschool sociology class.

I've started reading the book again and I finished the introduction! I am now trying to read purely to study briefly OR have fun; so unless it's really important, I won't take notes (this or I won't read at all, college is killing me ;-;). Well, I learned about how linguistic came to be, its relations with other sciences, how phonetics are of different realm, and why writing has its prestige! NICE READ YAHOO!

I'm reading the first half this morning BEFORE class (and plan to read again after I arrived at campus). Gosh, at first I was really angry; however, the more I read, the more I realized that I should reflect from this also. I LOVE THIS TYPE OF NOVEL (the interrogating thingy similar to Albert Camus' Stranger)

Currently reading this for a book club event. Yeah, Kant's writing is indeed difficult to understand. Thankfully I have watched many introductory videos to his theories back then.

(should've logged this yesterday but wtv)

Introduction to kinds of "sciences" and why science of Politics is the perfect one to study (to reach eudaimonia (happiness/properness of life(?) no exact good translation).

THE LANGUAGE is hard to digest maybe because Aristotle is a scientist. I'm reading this very slowly :-;

History of linguistics. So far the language is very understandable NGL. And I love the arguments being given here as to why linguistic structure is superior as an object of study compared to faculty of speech (wow I saw the word "aphasia" again after such a long time).

Timeline (of first being studied(?)
Proto-Indo-European > Romantic > Germanic

Introduction: check!

I'm sad because apparently Saussure's pushed to work more on other topic, causing him to kinda neglect his ideas on this books, hence no absolutely complete texts present for his future readers to learn from :(

And Chomsky mentioned as the villain here (calling Saussure's theories native) and damn everyone thought this books already outdated (I'm reading for Derrida later)

Have read the introduction. Some says he's very technical with his explanation (maybe because he was a scientist also). It's nice that I have learnt some of his ideas back then, can't wait to really study this!

As usual, I have finished but I wanna give some little thoughts for this book:
1. Again, Socrates (or Plato) REALLY held utilitarianism in high place; art, in his words more or less, should serve function for it to be accepted in the town. Human expressions in it is deemed as unreasoning, like, wth?
2. The past life argument is quite weak for the end of the whole book, I didn't expect it but okay I guess...

Second to last chapter. This one is the most boring, I changed my mind. It explains about how tyrannical city and soul is very messy and eventually, only the life led by justice will persevere.

Oh, the only interesting part is from (572), that every man has this innate evil desires which is repressed in daily life but revealed in dreams. Yo, Psychoanalysis!

IMO ITS boring but maybe because I've watched the anime adaptation. So far, yes, they omitted many details.

This is like, Shikamaru's inner struggle with growing up. Kinda fond of it since I've encountered similar themes in my previous readings. However, I do realize why classics differ so much from modern writings.
