Finished the chapter on geographical differences. It is short yet exciting—probably the most interesting imo. I learned a lot about how different dialects is not merely caused by different regions; time plays a huge role. I've also just found out that there is an atlas for dialects (gilliron smt smt). I learned about isoglossematic (waves of dialect in atlas) OMG MANY THINGS but I can't really describe it sorry ;-;

YOO THE LAST CHAPTER explains furthermore about dialects; it offers many new interesting facts to me. Here, it dawned on me that Saussure always tries to say that changes in linguistics are mere coincidence, or more of; permanence are somply by chance. THE ENDING IS GOATED DAMN, IT IS POETIC since it emphasizes that eventually, linguistics should only concern itself with languages all through and through!

Finished the diachronic linguistics part and I'd say maybe I love philology. I love to see the history of words (and it's less boring than the previous synchronic stuff). Oh, and learning alteration, analogy, popular etymology, and agglutination reminds me of my morphology/syntax class ngl. I forgot the exact term but analogy is that one backtrack (burgle > burglar thingy). This is an easier read definitely.

Synchronic stuff—reminds me of my ol' history class in highschool (the first thing we learned). GOSH I ALSO MET SYNTAGMATIC AND ASSOCIATIVE (PRAGMATIC) IN THIS UNIT! I feel like Kreidler referenced Saussure very much. Reading this feels like rereading semantics textbook but with a lot more details to digest. I don't understand this chapter as much as the previous ones though. I'm more interested with diachronic tho!

I'd say this unit a decent read. It's lovely to see how this specific part gives an extensive explanation on the arbitrariness of language (and changes throughout the years must not be the focus of linguistics). Yet, Saussure also stated that language is unchanging. So, yeah, language has this duality. I'm happy to see the word synchronic and diachronic again, reminds me of my highschool sociology class.

I've started reading the book again and I finished the introduction! I am now trying to read purely to study briefly OR have fun; so unless it's really important, I won't take notes (this or I won't read at all, college is killing me ;-;). Well, I learned about how linguistic came to be, its relations with other sciences, how phonetics are of different realm, and why writing has its prestige! NICE READ YAHOO!

History of linguistics. So far the language is very understandable NGL. And I love the arguments being given here as to why linguistic structure is superior as an object of study compared to faculty of speech (wow I saw the word "aphasia" again after such a long time).
