Absolutely beyond grotesque in the most fabulous way I could have ever imagined. Good god, Murakami really knows how to make my jaw drop, with the twists and absolutely horrifying descriptions, dialogue and well timed quotes. Johnnie Walker you sick bastard, and I suppose Murakami as well for the way he managed to convey such morbid horror. Absolutely superb writing indeed, i’m aghast.

Incredible background storytelling, portraying Connie as a “impure” woman while also highlighting the freedom and experiences she was lucky enough to experience in a time it would have been considered immoral for women. I like how it describes the afterglow of ‘the love experience’ by showing the difference between how men and women perceive sex and relationships, and the differences in character.
