Mark Hundley is finished with Remembering the Civil War: Reunion and the Limits of Reconciliation (Littlefield History of the Civil War Era)
Excellent presentation of northern and southern attempts to conceptualize and interpret the Civil War. Useful background as the fight continues over its memory and meaning.

Mark Hundley is finished with The War That Forged a Nation: Why the Civil War Still Matters
A collection of nuanced essays by the author focusing on the legacy of the US Civil War. Serviceable material accessibly presented with small insights rather major arguments. All in all useful work though not vital.

Mark Hundley is finished with All the Light We Cannot See
Good though not great, I think. Bourgeois i.e. middle class in its sensibilities concerning a novel set in World War II and delivers the expected homily. Does possess a nice lyric quality in the prose, perhaps a little forced at times but not overwhelming. A decent one-time read but nothing that inspires a return to the narrative.

Mark Hundley is on page 92 of 544 of 1913: In Search of the World Before the Great War
Emmerson's book examines the year 1913 with the intent of understanding a portion of the reasons behind the outbreak of WWI by examining this last year of peace.Much of the material, while perhaps new to readers familiar with this literature, still seems lacking in freshness of insight. Not sure if I will finish or abandon this book.
