Emmerson's book examines the year 1913 with the intent of understanding a portion of the reasons behind the outbreak of WWI by examining this last year of peace.Much of the material, while perhaps new to readers familiar with this literature, still seems lacking in freshness of insight. Not sure if I will finish or abandon this book.
