The main character Jacob was getting ready to go to the circus with his family but then the book flashes back to him younger working at the circus and arriving to a new city.

in the book, the main character is recruited into the working team of the circus and is finding his way around by doing jobs and talking to new people.

the story just had its first real main event and one of the characters I'm following in the book just lost his parents to a very bad car accident. The main character is now trying to get lost in the world and he leaves town during an out of body experience where he feels nothing matters.

The main character just saw a circus tent that was in town and he got startled.
