Just Zola can make a romantic scene in which hands interlace in minced meat and make it actually romantic

First part finished, I think I’ll open a parenthesis and I’ll read something more traditional. Postmodern prose is cool but it makes you tired after a while.

Et rien de Rome en Rome n'aperçois,
Ces vieux palais, ces vieux arcs que tu vois,

Vois quel orgueil, quelle ruine : et comme
Celle qui mit le monde sous ses lois,
Pour dompter tout, se dompta quelquefois,
Et devint proie au temps, qui tout consomme.
