Picking up this book again, as per tradition, while I am feeling embittered about how my full time job (analysing data systems) distracted me from my infinitely more important hobbies (playing guitar).

It is through reading this book that I learned I have been shredding paper wrong my entire life, and this is why my paper shredder always gets jammed eventually even when I underfeed it. Huh. Who knew.

My favourites so far (Google them, they are all publicly available):

Blue Notebook #10 (obligatory, p. 45)
Pushkin and Gogol (p. 51-52)
An Incident Involving Petrakov (p. 56)
Makarov and Petersen #3 (p. 66-67)

Hey buddy, ever heard of a line break?

Leviticus is a lot like the iTunes terms and conditions, albeit with more animal sacrifice and leprosy.

✅ Evocative writer, great descriptive passages, incredibly dry and brutal humour running through the whole thing which I am really enjoying.

❌ HP Lovecraft levels of casual racism. Yeuch.

So, you know how they revealed who killed Laura Palmer halfway through Twin Peaks’ second season, then spent the remainder of it meandering through impenetrably dull sub-plots?

Well, the Israelites reach Mount Sinai halfway through the Book of Exodus.

Finally got round to the big one

Moses desperately could have done with an editor.

Still hasn’t passed the bechdel test, but I remain ever hopeful. I’m still in the Old Testament.

Looking forward to the next couple of chapter, Jacob is about to be born: Huge news for Jacobs everywhere.

It’s not what it looks like, I swear.
