✅ Evocative writer, great descriptive passages, incredibly dry and brutal humour running through the whole thing which I am really enjoying.

❌ HP Lovecraft levels of casual racism. Yeuch.

So, you know how they revealed who killed Laura Palmer halfway through Twin Peaks’ second season, then spent the remainder of it meandering through impenetrably dull sub-plots?

Well, the Israelites reach Mount Sinai halfway through the Book of Exodus.

Still hasn’t passed the bechdel test, but I remain ever hopeful. I’m still in the Old Testament.

Looking forward to the next couple of chapter, Jacob is about to be born: Huge news for Jacobs everywhere.

I do not know if it is the fault of Kafka’s original manuscripts or of whomever translated this volume, but I yearn desperately for these stories to be typeset with more line breaks (particularly during the dialogue). My feeble and unpowerful mind can only take so many dense walls of text.
