I like it ok, the dialogue is very overt when it comes to character dynamics. think it over explains things sometimes but maybe it is representative of the author’s thoughts on how people might have actually communicated more plainly with each other in this time. Very nice book. I love M.R James’ stories, but they can feel painfully bureaucratic, and quintessentially British in the same way. They send a paper to a guy who reads the paper and say “that’s kind of odd” who sends it to another guy who says the same thing until the last guy reads it and says “there’s definitely something hinky going on, glad we figured that out now we can never speak of it again”
