bored and my ego wants to properly shit on this book

im very curious abt how god, spirits, and authority are playing into this book. regan's father is deadbeat and the characters are starting to attribute this to her erratic behavior. father karras has lost his faith in god. chris, an athiest, has become distrusting of doctors and is fascinated in psychics and spiritual beings. the puzzle pieces are everywhere, but these are connected somehow. i just know it.

jumping back into horror with this book, and im very excited. the prologue is mysterious and im wondering how pazuzu is gonna connect to chris and her daughter regan (the card in father merrin's wallet was outdated 12 years late; regan is 11 👀) the writing is relatively easy, consise, and i can just tell this book is gonna be intense.

that letter was so out of nowhere, and it kind of makes me sad. but im glad we're not entirely done with adam trask and his story yet; i love cal and aron, but i was a little worried that the book was going to start moving faster. i hope i can see their development through adam's inheritance as they move to salinas. dessie and tom are so sweet, they reminded me of me and my older sister🥹

and so the next generation begins! its bittersweet, but im glad that adam got his redemption ("im free!") and lee hasn't forgetten his dreams. the hamiltons, cathy, and the trask brothers left a legacy will imprint on aron, cal, and abra but im sure they'll bring their own unique twist on their family legacies. super excited. samuel you legend 💐

caleb and aaron finally have a name bro adam what were u doing🥹 i wish i had more knowledge to the biblical allusions being made in this book. im glad that the verses were spoonfed to me, but im sure there are some fun easter eggs im missing too lol

absolutely LOVING samuel's development and his conversation with lee has been my favorite convo in the book so far. samuel is already a charmer but there's a vulnerability between the two that reveals how much more there is to learn about them compared to how they were introduced. i just hope he gets his bag bc the world is sending him so many warnings. let him get paid and cathy DO NOT fuck with him istg

ok but actually tho ihy cathy but THANK YOU for spicing this shit up. it was already tense and i think she's made this so much worse. i wanna feel for adam, but like.... come on bro.

cathy is introduced as monstrous, and im immediately skeptical. is she really evil? or is it just a framing thing? dont get me wrong, she's NOT a saint but from how the story's been told so far, women seem to be held to different moral standards and they take 2nd to male characters (every "mrs" has been introduced AFTER "mr" and theyre given less description.) either way, love her character and she's...fire.🥁

i am SO excited to see whats happening between adam and charles. each of their character development has been really good, and late cyrus is now setting the groundwork for GENERATIONAL fucking beef. curious abt the way "concuspiscence" and sexual diseases play into the themes of morality. its been a minute since ive read a 600+ page book; a little daunting, but i just know this is gonna get so good.

im pleasantly surprised! easy to read but great imagery, and im really loving the way the characters are being laid out. theres a strangely likeable quality to cyrus, and im so curious as to how the feud between adam and charles is going to evolve. also curious how samuel is going to eventually be tied in. alice i am so sorry but i dont think the kid who beat tf out his brother is the one leaving gifts girl

i LOVE this book so far, but to be blunt: this book homogenically white and eugenides is definitely aware of this. he writes in chapter 3 how black people are ostracized from this suburban neighborhood, and there a couple of hard R drops that catch me SO off guard (and take me out of the story.) idk if this is concious classism commentary or an excuse not to write black characters, but its something to notice.

not even done with the chapter but i came on here to say that this writing is absolutely gorgeous. flowery without being over the top, different techniques of metaphor that end up circling back and vivid imagery for the smallest moments. absolutely gorgeous love love love

sisters aged 13-17. youthful, angelic, beautifully strange and their parents seem to be helicopters. they somehow all end up killing themselves. there's immediately this air of mystery (bc wtf???) and our suspicious narrator casually details the events of cecelia, the youngest and 1st suicide. clear biblical allusions that will prob become important later. the writing is BEAUTIFUL. im just so scared and confused?

this book is a page turner when you're back in it. still cute, still hot, but things are getting tricky for the characters. once again grateful to HR for fleshing these characters out.

the kip audiobook situation is...unfortunate. but that aside, really easy read. maybe a little too easy? the writing can be a little corny sometimes but it's really cute and chapter 5 is pretty damn hot. im also really thankful for the HR tv series bc it makes these characters so much more alive. book isn't a literary masterpeice but ykw idc this is cute its sexy its fun! i love skip❤️

every time i feel like im about to lose attention, this book just DEMANDS my attention. it's so good and the 3rd act is by far my favorite, but i feel like theres so much i have to learn about this book. im really unsatisfied on first read bc ik i can engage with the actual content of this book more. regardless, im "excited" to finish?? i get a sense of overwhelming dread 💀

im fascinated (although slightly questioning) the relationship between winston and julia and ive been EXTREMELY nervous about obrien, though ik now he's chill. 100% all of these characters are gonna die. theres no way they live. ive also hit the DENSE philosophy of goldenstein and im gonna need to take some time to analyze it. i thought this book was already kinda preachy, but FUCK we're in it now

finally got the chance and energy to open a book again, and damn i feeel a slow burn coming. there was a moment where i felt EXTREMELY uneasy at the thought of winston...living a normal life? reading how oppressive this govt is makes it kind of numbing in a way. extremely nervous about the girl from the fiction dpt and i dont see a happy ending for winston, not in his lifetime anyway.

as i get to know winston and his place of work, its really unsettling to see how easily the truth can be "rectified." all we know is based on the knowledge that has been told to us from branches and branches of sources, each with their own potential of falsification or bias. im sad school started bc i wish i had more energy to get through hours worth of pages in one sitting.
