everytime i think "damn i kinda dont like this book" it immediately gets good

finally a GOOOOOD chapter. ch 6 is exactly what i need to see for the rest of this book: intense (almost sexual?) tension. amazing lyrical writing. vivid imagery. fight club's beginning had me worried, but i'm finally feeling this book.

im a little unsure about the writing style. it's easy but poetic, lyrical prose. words and phrases are constantly being repeated and it reads dramatic. some of it is BEAUTIFUL writing, but imo some of it becomes too much and drags on for too long. it might just be because i really don't know whats going on in the story?? i get how it's being setup but it's lowkey confusing for now😭

if i had a nickel for every time a gay author wrote about someone's balls being cut off, i'd have two nickels. it's not a lot but it's weird that it happened twice

something in my heart tells me they're not getting that deferral and im gonna be devastated if they dont.

in the final stretch and everytime i get a question answered, ishiguro leaves me asking MORE questions about this hailsham system. this guy knows how to scratch an itch, and there's something about the way he writes that makes me feel like im falling in quicksand. it's relatively simple prose, but there's something so addicting about it.

"maybe once hailsham was behind us, it was possible, just for that half year or so...it was possible to forget for whole stretches of time who we really were."
kathy continues to reminisce but she'll drop little pieces of information about her origins that really strike me. i LOVE this train-of-thought writing and i'm suprised to see sex become a larger theme to further explore purpose and future.

yea this is not going to end well for me now that i know what makes them "special" and im kind of scared of how the rest of this book goes. but it just got GOOD. now the little school drama feels like it was cues i was missing. really curious.

never let me go starts out with a suprising amount of school drama. i'm slightly unfamiliar with some of the english terms, but i'm enjoying the way kathy is reminiscing on her hailsham days. i'm just curious about what her current job as a "carer" truly entails.

binged-read the rest of the book in one sitting. i think the book is pretty alright, but HR was elevated so much by the show. makes me so giddy and happy that idec.

i think this memoir is hard fo read when you consider the fact that she was just a kid. i can't see my sister or any young girl having to grow up like that, and it's so heartbreaking.

beautiful start so far and i glad i picked this one as my first memoir read. simple, easy to read descriptions of childhood and im too tired but i want to keep reading about cyntoia's interactions with the juvenile system

the book is starting to speed up and im enjoying it, but i think ive been really tainted by my pacing? im really anxious to finish this bc of how on and off ive been reading it, and i think that's eating a little bit of my enjoyment. still, i'll try to finish it up at a fast but comfortable pace so it doesn't negatively impact my thoughts on the read.

i feel teary eyed revisiting this book and im reminded why this is my favorite. im floored by the layered, intimate writing and theres just something about david that makes me connect with him so much. (horrible, ik.)

i am so drained, and im not sure if that's a good or bad thing for this book. i was morbidly enthusiastic about the sluts for a reason: depraved and twisted desires in a internet-styled book. it absolutely delivers on that front, and i am lowk traumatized. but i can't help but feel like there's something off abt the way this story is being told? bouncing between so many users and formats is smart, but idk. we'll see

im really enjoying so far. cooper does a great job at replicating the obscure online forum feel. i feel like i can't move onto the next escort without mapping out wtf i just read: so much bs from different reviewers and god this imagery is gross. feel so bad for brad (stevie?) because nobody should be in this situation to begin with, but oh my god ew.
