finally got the chance and energy to open a book again, and damn i feeel a slow burn coming. there was a moment where i felt EXTREMELY uneasy at the thought of winston...living a normal life? reading how oppressive this govt is makes it kind of numbing in a way. extremely nervous about the girl from the fiction dpt and i dont see a happy ending for winston, not in his lifetime anyway.

as i get to know winston and his place of work, its really unsettling to see how easily the truth can be "rectified." all we know is based on the knowledge that has been told to us from branches and branches of sources, each with their own potential of falsification or bias. im sad school started bc i wish i had more energy to get through hours worth of pages in one sitting.

i found myself having trouble getting through our narrator's story. i have moments where i love his words, especially from a queer lens. i can appreciate it, but i cant fully resonate with it (not that i need to, and i like how this story is making me analyze relationships from different povs.) nostenka seems touched but hesistant about him, especially bc she clearly wants friendship only. i'll keep reading.

bros first encounter with a woman... chat is he cooked?💔💔
srs though, first chapter in and i think im looking at this narrator with too much judgement? idk but im trying to be open minded and contextual about this book and not equate it with the slightly concerning incel talk. besides that, really love how the setting is personified and detailed. really lovely.

i like it so far, but a little... intense? i feel very conflicted about the dynamic between elio and oliver. i think i see myself in this freaky nasty mf who is constantly analyzing every move, questioning his place, oliver's, and even chiara's. it reflects in the prose, which is very straightfoward stream-of-consience type. very pretty writing, easy read so far. curious to see what happens next.

back into it! attention span was bugging, so i only did 2 chapters. but i enjoyed learning about the narrator (pretty sure its the stranger, not walton) and his upbringing. curious about his demise that was suposedly fated for.

went straight into the letters- there's such an intensity to how captain walton describes his fondness of the stranger. its almost romantic? im sure its just different endearment with the times, but man i felt like that mf was crushing on him (or just really starved of human connection, which made for really solid writing.) also loving the prose in regards to purpose and amount of detail in describing the setting.

this book has been an absolute pleasure to read and it's kept me on my toes from the very start of tom robinson's trial. i really start to see the climax and i was so anxious about the verdict. lee's prose is beautiful, and even though i can start to form some more modern critiques of this book, i think this is a brilliant work, especially for its time.

snyopses of this book are very misleading, and i suprisingly like that. i love how we get to see the dynamics of the finches from a personal level and from scouts perspective, whos a great character. im picking themes about familial herritage, gender roles, and lending yourself to different perspective even when its not in your moral alignment (referred to by scout as "relativity.")

so far, i like it! haven't gotten to the meat of the synopsis but i like the way the story is setting up power structures through the classroom, especially from the perspecfive of a young scout. i think it can be hard to remember that this is the 1930's and SO many things were different back then, not just technology. curious to see how the rest goes!
